Medical Coding

Medical coders assign a code to each diagnosis and procedure by using classification systems books and software. As a student in the medical coding program, you will learn the necessary skills to apply codes, submit bills, and communicate with other healthcare professionals. This program allows you to get out into the workforce after one year of coursework. This is one of the few health-related occupations in which there is no direct hands-on patient care. The average salary range for a medical coder is $20,500–$30,000.

Associate Degree Nursing

The Associate Degree Nursing completion program is designed for students who have successfully completed the Practical Nursing program at Northwest Iowa Community College, or for the Licensed Practical Nurse eligible to practice who wishes to continue study for an Associate Degree in Nursing (RN). NCC is very well structured so students can go on to complete their BSN degree. If you stay in northwest Iowa, starting salary is $18–28/hour.

Practical Nursing

The Practical Nursing program prepares you to provide comprehensive care for clients’ physical and psychosocial needs. This programs allows you to enter the workforce after three semesters of coursework. Careers include work in hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, home healthcare, wellness centers, schools, and insurance companies. If you stay in northwest Iowa, you can expect to make a starting salary of $14-$16 an hour.

Pharmacy Technician

Pharmacy technicians work under the care of a licensed pharmacist and perform many pharmacy related functions. Job duties include providing medication and other health care products to patients as well as working with third party and doctors’ offices in resolving adjudication of patients’ insurance or state programs. The expected wage for Pharmacy Technicians is $9.00 to $13.00 per hour or $19,000 to $28,000 per year. This program can be completed in three semesters.

Radiologic Technician

Radiologic technologists, also known as radiographers, produce x-ray films of parts of the human body for use in diagnosing medical problems. This two-year comprehensive program consists of radiologic courses, clinical experience, and general studies. Employment opportunities exist in various settings, such as hospitals, healthcare facilities, physician offices, mobile imaging companies, industrial plants, research centers, government agencies, commercial sales, and education. Average starting salary is around $16–$23/hour.

Radiologic Technician – Hybrid

The hybrid program allows for the opportunity to complete assignments and clinical rotations at their convenience. is a high demand for radiographers. This program is beginning in the Spring of 2017.

Health Information Technology – Online

If you wish to combine your organizational and analytical skills with your interest in healthcare, a career in Health Information Technology could be for you! As a Health Information Technician, you play a vital role in making our healthcare system work. You perform data collection and analysis needed by doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. Average starting salary is around $15/hour. Salary increases with experience.
